She Rallies
Kathy, Sarah and Georgie enjoyed a fun day at a recent She Rallies event with Judy Murray as the star guest. She Rallies is a new initiative aimed at coaching the next generation of coaches with the over-arching aim of creating opportunities in tennis for women and girls from the grassroots through to international level. Sarah is the Ambassador for Hampshire, and was one of the main coaches in charge of the day, and Kathy was helping out. Having attended the day with us, Georgie is now a trained Activator.
There is a whole range of activities running at Avondale over the school holidays, with some of the great ideas being put into use.
Mini-red tournament
Well done to Oscar, Toby, Toby, Denis and Ben who took part in the Mini Red 8U Grade 5 tournament at Guildford Tennis Academy. Playing on artificial clay with sponge balls, our players had 8 matches in one big group, first to 7 points wins. The boys won some and lost some but they enjoyed the experience.
At the club we are keen to try and help children improve and develop as players, and in order to achieve this outcome it is important that, along with coaching and practising, they try and play matches. This helps the player develop tactically and also shows up areas that they may need to work on.
The players were accompanied by Sarah Rutherford and Samuel Conway.
Miss Hits at Avondale
We are starting a new event for Juniors on June 7th, called Miss Hits. Open to non-members aged 4-8. It is on Wednesdays from 1645-1730. The cost for a session is £6:00. For more details, click here.
