Open Day highlights – the joys of tennis

Open Day 2015Over 250 people of all ages attended the Open Day on May 16th to enjoy the various activities throughout the day which formed part of the LTA’s national Great British Tennis Weekend. The Mini Tennis Zone was packed with youngsters trying tennis for the first time while adults and older juniors enjoyed the Cardio Tennis sessions which saw them all leaping about the courts during the fifteen minute sessions. Others came to hit with Avondale members, or beat the ball machine, or to test the speed of their serves.

Many participants joined the club on the day while lots of people signed up for coaching courses that take place throughout the year.“We have been running this event for four years and this was the best one ever,” said our chairman,Paul Treacy. “It was a joy to see our six courts full of new people having fun, enjoying the sessions which our brilliant juniors were helping to run.

A big thank you to everyone who helped run this event: the members who came down the hit for an hour and stayed much longer, to everyone who made scrumptious cakes and helped run the catering, to the car parkers and to all the juniors that gave up their Saturdays and were a credit to themselves and to the club.

See you next year!
