It was with a deep sense of sadness and shock that we learnt that Caro Thornley had died on August 25th. Caro had been a very active member and supporter of the club, not only playing several times a week she also captained the Ladies B Team to great effect over a number of years. She always took an interest in the progress of other teams and frequently turned up as a spectator at club events.
Caro was a lovely caring person, always prepared to listen. This was shown through her brilliant organisational skills, her drive to optimise her team (and her tennis) but ultimately her steadfastness, her humour, her generosity – which included her amazing baking for both home & away matches, even if she was not playing – that made her one of the rocks in our tennis community.
Caro will be greatly missed, by everyone in the Ladies B team who feel devastated by their loss and the wider club membership. She was a good friend, a tennis lover and one of those very special people who burns brightly filling those around her with kindness & joy. She was a beautiful, generous and caring soul.
We send our condolences and support to her husband Mike, and to Harriet, Benjamin and Anna.
