Mini-red tournament

Well done to Oscar Callaghan, Toby Cronin, Toby Oldham, Denis Sabitova and Ben Slade who took part in the Mini Red 8U Grade 5 tournament at Guildford Tennis Academy. Playing on artificial clay with sponge balls, our players had 8 matches in one big group, first to 7 points wins. The boys won some and lost some but they enjoyed the experience.

At the club we are keen to try and help children improve and develop as players, and in order to achieve this outcome it is important that, along with coaching and practising, they try and play matches. This helps the player develop tactically and also shows up areas that they may need to work on.

The players were accompanied by Sarah Rutherford and Samuel Conway.

Quorn family event 2017

A great turnout for this weekend’s Quorn Family Cup U10 Tournament. With four courts in use, the Mums/Dads plus their U10s thrashed it out to win the day.
The winners have earned the opportunity of a day out at a Quorn Family Tennis Cup event held on the qualifying weekend of a LTA Staged Grass Court tournament in May or June.
Each pair will have the chance to play against other winners on the day as well as watch the professional players in action.

Winners: Adam and Angus Tracy
Runners up: Jacob and Richard Diskin
Not sure in the photos who looks most pleased – the juniors or the Dads!

Junior successes

We put three teams into the LTA challenge event held at Wrecclesham during the October half term. Our yellow ball team of Matthew Reed, Sam Reid, Daniel Lee and Sam Mackenzie won their section as did Jacob Diskin and Ben Creed in the orange ball section.

The club junior winners for November are Lucy Hall, Samuel Bridges, Henry Bruce and Matthew Tarling.

Well done everyone!

Congratulations to William Jones

Look out for William Jones when you watch the ATP finals coming up at the O2 arena, as he has been selected as a ballboy. Good luck William ; it should be a great experience for you. Let’s hope that Andy Murray is able to hang on to his world No 1 ranking.
(William is one of our most promising juniors, winning the U14 Singles then the U14 Doubles and U18 Doubles with Michael Presland in this year’s finals weekend)
