The Smiths Cups weekend took place on 5th/6th April under leaden skies with a light drizzle but this did not dampen the spirits of the players and there was some good tennis played. The Ladies’ event was a very close competition between seven pairs many of whom were still in contention in the final round. The winners were Sue Adams and Elaine Leitch who won all their six sets. The Men’s event was less well supported but the eight men who played enjoyed a good afternoon’s tennis before injury to Peter Archer and the rain intervened but the worthy winners were Lewis Rattigan and Gurkan Demircan who were unbeaten after four sets. Thanks to Sue Adams and Stuart Tibbitts for organising the events and to everyone who provided food, especially to Jill, Ann and Mrs Tibbitts.
